Are leaded glass pane windows historically accurate?

In Vintage Story, you can use leaded glass to insulate a room to maintain its room-status, thus protecting you against the harsh winter status. My question is around how accurate that is in the real world. From some preliminary research, they don't seem very insulating, so I'm wondering why that decision was made.
