Am I overreacting when the guy who said he wanted to be my boyfriend, has been (cheating?) on me for weeks.
I (21F) and the guy I’ve been seeing,(20M) let’s call him Kyle; have been texting since November 3rd 2025. We’ve gone on 5-6 dates and I’ve stayed at his after almost every one. Keep in mind, this is the guy I gave my virginity to.
On the second date, he told me he liked me 4 times. I said it back, and thought from there that meant something. Apparently I was wrong. 2 months before our first date, he had a girlfriend for a week and never told me. I didn’t argue, we hadn’t even gone on the first date yet. Life went on, our relationship went on. And I started referring to him as my boyfriend after the 4th date.
Three days ago, he told me he liked me again and we had a chat about life. He told me that moving closer would mean we could “have something serious”. Which made me feel stupid, because I’d assumed we were.
Today, August 13th 2026, he told me he’d gone to the arcade with friends. I was happy for him. He then started his stream like usual, at roughly the 5 minute mark; started talking about the girl he took on a date to the arcade. And said he will “definitely be seeing her again.”
This is the guy that took my virginity, sat and listened to me while I told him about the times I was SA’d, comforted me when my I was told my uncle past mid date, and claimed to like me over and over and wants to be with me (apparently).
What I want to know is if I’m in the wrong for assuming we were a thing and thinking been led on. Or am I overreacting?
*EDIT*
It seems that some people are ignoring some things I’ve said and twisting my words.
• “Calling him my Boyfriend” was the wrong wording. I had no idea what to refer to him as to my friends and family when having conversations about him, therefor using “boyfriend” loosely.
•I’m seeing a lot of “you chose to have sex with him therefor blah blah blah”. Yes, I chose to have sex with him. But after being assaulted, having sex with him and only him felt like a big thing. A trust. And we both were aware of that.
•I’ve seen multiple comments on my intelligence and my maturity and while I see how from an outside perspective, this may seem immature; I really don’t see a need to insult and antagonise someone you don’t know.
•I appreciate your opinions, truly. But I’ve decided to have a conversation with him and cut off whatever he thinks this is. I’m not a casual dater, in fact I hate “situationships” and “hookup culture”, in this society. It makes me sick. Thank you for your comments, goodnight.
