SHOULD I TAKE A DROP (ITS MY FIRST)

So I got EWS 19xx but the EWS was before April so I ain't getting anything even if I hoped for, getting a mid tier state college EnTC thinking of partial drop cause I really wanna go IISER, but the catch is I didn't told my father since he already didn't wanted me to go very far away from home and if I said I wanna take a drop he will not let me, told my mother she said ok you try will se if next year if you get a good rank, so is this idea worth taking a chance, i am just afraid that the first year fees of my btech will go in vain if i really switched next year also, i am doing coding and stuff and i don't wanna stop it, and it will hamper my preparation along with college and all
