Loose shower tile is a warning sign, not just a grout repair
If shower tile sounds hollow, moves when pressed, or keeps cracking at the grout lines, I would be careful about treating it as a simple cosmetic patch.
A few things to sort out first:
- Is the tile loose because the setting bed failed, or is water getting behind it?
- Are there soft walls, swelling trim, musty smells, or staining below the shower?
- Was the shower built with a real waterproofing system, or just tile over backer board?
- Are cracks at changes of plane where flexible sealant should have been used?
Sometimes a small regrout is fine. But if water has reached the wall cavity, patching the surface can just trap the problem until the rebuild is bigger and more expensive.
