Where am I supposed to smoke?

I have a genuine question. For us patients that live in apartments, where are we supposed to smoke? I don’t smoke inside because I have a small baby so I go outside my apartment. Hypothetically, what if one of my neighbors makes this a big deal? There are no designated smoking areas where I live and I’m not smoking inside or in my car. Like legally where am I supposed to smoke? Am I doing right?
