Confused about my early ultrasound — CRL ahead of dates but no heartbeat
Hi everyone, I’m really confused and honestly quite anxious about my ultrasound and would really appreciate some experiences.
My LMP was 1 July, but I was tracking ovulation with follicle scans. On 13 July, I had a follicle measuring around 20 mm, so I’m pretty sure I ovulated around 14–15 July. That would make me around 6w2–3d today (13 Aug).
I had a proper TVS today. They saw:
● Gestational sac + yolk sac
● Embryonic pole
● CRL 11.6 mm, which is measuring around 7w4d
● But no heartbeat/cardiac flicker was seen
The confusing part for me is that the baby is measuring 8–9 days ahead of my known ovulation date. The gestational sac itself is measuring around 5w5d, while the overall scan says around 6w5d.
The report says to have a follow-up scan for cardiac activity and doesn’t actually call it a failed pregnancy.
I know that no heartbeat with a CRL over 7 mm is considered concerning, but I’m struggling to understand the dating discrepancy. Could the CRL measurement simply be off? Has anyone had a similar situation where the embryo measured ahead of their actual dates but there was no heartbeat initially?
I’m planning to repeat the scan, but would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through something similar. ❤️
