Is anyone else hitting a wall with character retention and textbook boredom?
Hey everyone, wanted to share a plateau I hit recently and see if others are experiencing the same.
I realized I was getting really good at playing the "app game"—keeping daily streaks alive and matching isolated sentences like "The cat drinks milk." But the second I tried watching actual native shows or reading dialogue in context, I completely froze up.
Isolated flashcards help you memorize words, but human brains need context and narrative urgency to retain characters long-term.
A small team of us are mapping out a narrative web RPG where dialogue choices ARE the actual learning mechanic—navigating a story world where understanding linguistic nuance dictates your choices, not arbitrary grammar drills.
Before we write core code, we want to make sure we are building for real learner pain points.
If you've quit an app recently or hit the HSK3/4 plateau: What was the exact moment you felt most frustrated?
(If you can spare 2 minutes for our screener survey, there's a mini-preview of our level-matched native media matrix on the confirmation page. Link in comments!)
