Funny thing happened!

(Rant) 🤬

I recently came across a video post that was a satirical skit depicting the status of women in an Islamic country (my home country).

As someone who is critical of organized religion, I often encounter similar content on platforms like Reddit.

While I recognized it was a skit (as it went viral), OP initially believed it was real. After I clarified, they kindly removed the post.

What’s interesting is that someone accused me of lying about the video being fictional. Their name suggested a specific ethnic background (popular here), so I calmly provided evidence that it was indeed a skit. Out of curiosity, I asked if they were of this ethnicity, as I wanted to learn more about this religion. Unlike them, I chose to ask rather than assume.

This person became upset, offended by the idea that I might have assumed that they were of this “lower ethnicity” rather than their “superior ethnicity”.

It made me realize how complex these dynamics are: some individuals may criticize Muslims rather than Islam, while others may hold prejudices against certain ethnic or country of origin.

Ironically, this can lead to unlikely alliances, united in hate, such as between groups that might not even recognize each other as allies. Where one of these groups considers themselves as the “humans” while everyone else is “subhuman”.

It’s disheartening to see people directing hatred toward others rather than focusing on addressing harmful ideologies.

It’s no secret that polarization is increasing globally, with people often clashing over deeply held beliefs. Fortunately, we’re not part of that divisiveness and I hope we keep being objective and honest.
