Classic Culture

Vent / Gripe

I’m writing this a bit bummed by the realization that I may not fit in with wow classic.

I’m a long time veteran (playing fairly consistently since og wrath, I usually average around a 3400-3500m+ score, usually retail parse between 95-99%, etc), but I switched to classic as my main wow game to have a more chill experience. I expected easier raids, a more laid back community, a slower experience, and more immersion in my character.

What I’ve gotten is easier raids, character immersion and a slower experience, but my personal experience with the community has been fairly toxic.

It seems every guild (granted, only 2 so far, so a very small sample size) I’ve interacted with has expectations for you to farm gold to pay for top tier consumables that net a 1% (according to sims) increase over budget options (with no wow token available (I know this is controversial) this means hours of farming for +/- 30 dps), and are so obsessed with shaving a few seconds off of a guaranteed boss kill that they will crash out over fairly petty reasons (had a hunter crash out because he was out of range for battle shout on alar lol, slurs in party chat, the whole 9 yards).

I keep seeing the other extreme being true too, players who don’t really have strong mechanical fundamentals, nothing wrong with that, but I don’t really want to wipe due to bad play.

For clarity, I’m normally a min max oriented player through and through, in retail, where progression takes months and a kill attempt can absolutely hang on 1-3%.

In classic, assuming no blatant, wipe worthy errors, 1-3% only serves to shorten kill time and help parses.

I’m frustrated, there HAS to be a middle ground… right? Competent players who can carry a conversation, who don’t lose their minds over fairly trivial shit in an objectively easier and solved version of the game?
