Is it stupid to wrap a non-clear acrylic kit to prevent damage?

Saw a post here a couple days ago about drum wrapping and it got me thinking. I have a 1978 Vistalite in black. Unlike most Vistalites, it is completely opaque. It has a few scratches and dings here and there, and my main reason for thinking of wrapping it would be to prevent further direct damage. Is this reasonable? Would it be a huge pain in the ass to remove later if I decided to? Would it affect the sound greatly? Or any other issues I'm not thinking of?
