Reading screenplays on a kindle sucks. That's why I made a free tool that fixes it.

Tip/Guide đź’ˇ

Hi fellow (e-)readers!

A bit of a niche issue, but I read lots of screenplays for my work. I've always had this dream of being able to read screenplays on my Kindle while keeping screenplay formatting.

I ended up making Screepub, a poorly titled, but highly functional app for macOS that gives you drag and drop PDF → an e-book your Kindle can actually read. It's free, open source, and no AI involved. The conversion happens locally on your computer.

The defaults are pretty great, but I even built a window to fine tune formatting before you send it to your Kindle.

Currently the best way to use it is the Send to Kindle (web) option, where you upload files directly and point to a device. If you'd rather nothing leaves your machine, USB is the route that doesn't touch a network.

If you're old school and want to plug it in, Kindles up to 2023 can sideload over USB. One exception, the Scribe, which switched to a different USB mode in a firmware update (5.16.3) and stopped mounting. Newer Kindles (base 2024, Paperwhite 12, Colorsoft, Scribe 3) don't mount on a Mac at all. That's a future feature I have planned if there's serious interest.

It's pretty new so I'm eager for feedback and feature requests! Please let me know what you think!
