Spouse retiring just before age 52
Spouse planned to work until 55 but their work load / hours will kill them if they work another 3-4 years as the CEO hasn’t listened about hiring the staff he needs.
Our assets are around $3-3.5m. About $1m isn’t tied up in retirement accounts (cash, investments). We spend around $120K/year right now. Certainly there are things we can cut back on. Buying health insurance on our own after Cobra runs out in 1.5 years is our biggest concern. Luckily we have no long term health issues right now.
I haven’t worked in 25 years; ran the house, yard, finances, kid & dogs. We made it so all he had to do is work and could come home without chores to do. Child is now 25 and working/living on their own. I have a degree in Accounting but even with volunteering, my resume is pretty dated.
My mom started gifting each of us $19K in mutual funds to lower her assets - which would cover buying health insurance on our own.
I know financially we’re doing well. But still some anxiety on not having a steady salary come in.
