I just finished Desperate Housewives for the second time, and somehow it hit harder than the first
I just finished Desperate Housewives for the second time, and I genuinely forgot how much this show can make you laugh, cry, scream at the TV, and then immediately make you question why you’re emotionally attached to people who live on a fictional street.
The first time I watched it, I was mostly invested in the mysteries and the drama. Watching it again, I noticed so much more. The friendships, the marriages, the betrayals, the little character moments, the absolutely insane decisions these women made, and how much the characters actually changed over eight seasons.
And Wisteria Lane might be the most dangerous neighborhood in television history. 😂 Murder? Affair? Blackmail? Kidnapping? Random person hiding a massive secret? Just another Tuesday on the Lane.
Susan will frustrate you. Bree will make you question your morals. Lynette will make you exhausted just watching her life. Gaby will make you laugh when you probably shouldn’t. And somehow, despite all of their flaws, you end up loving them.
The second watch also made me appreciate the show’s darker side so much more. There are moments that are genuinely disturbing, but then five minutes later someone is making a ridiculous joke about muffins or a lawn mower.
And the finale. I knew it was coming, but it still got me. There’s something strangely emotional about realizing that you’re saying goodbye not just to the characters, but to an entire little world you’ve spent 180 episodes living in.
Now I’m sitting here with that weird post series emptiness where I’m tempted to immediately start it over again.
Anyway, goodbye Wisteria Lane. You were hilarious, horrifying, ridiculous, and somehow comforting all at once.
