Perfectionism is not insecurity
I find this really hard to explain to people. I am very much a perfectionist with every aspect of my life: grades, environment (cleanliness, aesthetics, etc.), looks, personality. Pretty much everything. Some is based on insecurity, sure. I have ADHD and I am insecure about some of the personality traits that gives me. However, especially with things like looks, when I want to improve something, everyone tells me I’m gorgeous or that no one notices, I need to love myself, etc. Like, no one listens to me. I love the way I look, but I know I have things that can be improved. That doesn’t mean I hate myself. I don’t care if others don’t notice; I do (it doesn’t mean I hate my whole appearance, though), and if it can be improved, why not?
