Hotels.com obligations after hotel cancels.

Comments Moderated

I booked a room in halls of residence in Edinburgh Scotland back in March this year through hotels.com.

I got an email today telling me that the property had adopted a student only policy and as a result they were cancelling my booking.

I can’t provide suitable documentation so and I have spent significant cash on shows, transportation etc.

Hotels.com are unwilling to find me alternate accommodation or do anything beyond assist in a refund.

My view is that as money was taken in March for accommodation under different accommodation policies then that is a binding contract. As such if changes are made then I need a full refund plus any resultant additional costs or that hotels.com need to provide me with comparable accommodation in the same area for no additional cost.

Is that a legally sound position when I take it to the small claims court and what rights do I actually have or is there something else I should be doing?
