How do I not allow the past to hold me back in the present?
The past is essentially not real to me. If we experience the present as a continuation of the past with shared understanding, with memories and what we sense as signals of it's validity, it is accepted as real.
In that sense, the present exists as the only thing that is actually since it is what we are actively experiencing. Our past helps us understand it whether through consciousness, subconscious, or other complex memory and senses. Both in short term (millisecond) to long term.
I find that past memories, emotional memory, and learned behavioral/stress responses impact how I experience and act in the present. I am not able to completely take control and own myself in the moment on a continuous basis.
How do I derealize myself from the past to act in the present uninhibited by it, but yet still conscious of it?
