Why Are Some Regionals Not Even In Their Own Region
Something I noticed this year, which I imagine has been happening for a few years since the expansion of teams, is that some regions, such as New England, Mid-Atlantic, Mountain, Northwest, and Midwest, don't play within their region and have to travel great distances to play just in the regionals. In what world does it make sense for the Mountain region, consisting of teams from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska, to play its regional games in Southern California? I get wanting to play the Little League regionals at their regional HQ fields, but you're telling me there aren't any facilities in these regions that are equal to or better than what the kids are currently playing on. Just seems dumb when Little League prides itself on being community-based and affordable, only to force parents to spend thousands on flights and hotels for regionals that aren't even in the region. Would prefer Little League treated the regionals as USA Hockey treats its Nationals, with rotating venues each year.
