Canadians are already travelling. Alto can make it better.

One thing that gets lost in the debate around Alto is just how much travel is already happening between the cities it would connect.

Tens of thousands of vehicles use individual highway links along the corridor every day. On a typical weekday this summer, there are more than 220 direct flights between major corridor cities. VIA Rail already carries more than 3.3 million passengers a year on its Corridor East services.

Each mode gets part of the equation right. Driving gives people flexibility. Flying gives them speed. Rail gives them comfort and usable time.

Alto brings more of those advantages together: fast and frequent trips, reliable service, and time passengers can actually use.

We put together a closer look at what existing travel tells us about the opportunity for high-speed rail: https://go-alto.ca/en/updates/travel-is-already-happening/
