Is buying in bulk better for the planet?

When I buy in bulk I fill up my reusable produce bags, and when I get home, I empty them in reused glass jars and tupperware containers and label them. i know bulk shopping has the potential to be more eco friendly but it necessarily? I know maybe 3% of shoppers fill their own containers and bags and I guess it cuts down on waste in that way.

Most people just fill up those plastic bags at the grocery store. so it really doesn’t necessarily cut down on waste. Does it? Am I just not thinking of the bigger picture or something?
