Lost data while transfering

Hi, today i've been asked from a friend to change his hard disk format to NTFS to a ExFAT and i tourned out to be one of the most trouble of my entire life. I started by plugging the hard disk into my windows computer then i created a folder on the desktop where i should have placed the files of the hard disk then i can erase it and initialize and change the format to ExFAT but while i was transfering the files at the 95% of the transfer progress i stepped into a folder from a recovery of a pc with some important files and images, when the transfer progress has arrived to 95% he flagged this folder and the only option that i can use was "cancel" so i tought if i cancel the transfer of that folder i can always find it into the hard disk but when i checked the hard disk the folder wasn't there, i started to searching evrywhere: in the C: drive, in the folder in the desktop. Evrywhere but nothing so i installed EaseUS and another programm that can recover lost data but nothing i still cannot find the folder, i understand the issue that the hard disk was pretty old like 10 years now but i still checked previously with Crystaldiskinfo and it sad that the drive was in good condition so anyone can help me out with recovering this lost folder, any help its good to me
