I don't understand the appeal of the stealth archer playstyle

Discussion

I know a lot of people play as a stealth archer but i never understood the appeal, if the point of the game is to kill almost everything that moves wouldn't sniping/one-shotting your enemies from the next continent take the fun out of it (as your enemies can't fight back) and wouldn't that also make you a bit of a glass cannon?

Also if you play as a stealth archer do you ever use followers, just in case you need extra help or do you go it alone? as i know that vanilla followers are a bit gung-ho (as well as tending to trigger traps)

Is it more of a challenge/bragging thing or do people genuinely like that playstyle?

Because for me at least i usually adopt a battlemage playstyle (heavy armor with a long range or conjuration spell in one hand and a bound sword in the other) as i find its a good balance between long and short distance attacks without needing to carry around a heavy bow or crossbow and hundreds of arrows all the time
