This is something I picked up notice on even before I began to regularly read comics but the DC fandom has a very interesting vendetta against the Amazons of Themyscira, both within this Reddit and other apps, it feels like people want a reason to go “haha look, women only island would not be peaceful!”

Like we’ve all seen classic point “The Amazons are rapists and reproduce on an island!” convenientlty leaving out that’s only a thing in New 52 and that all previous continuities and the current one has new Amazons be formed in different ways(my favorite is post crisis and modern where it’s the well of souls reincarnating deceased women)

The point of “barbaric misandrists” is also very much exaggerating the Amazons valid wariness of men after not only having distasteful rumors spread of their culture but also then tortured and captured by Heracles and their army, so most women would not trust men so easily again.

Even then, the Amazons didn’t hate men as several times, such as in Perez’s era and the Paradise Found arc of Rucka, Amazons open their boundaries and allow outsiders to learn more and cross culture exchange as they’re not close minded.

Theres also the smaller but noticeable people who hate the amazons cause they think “oh the comics treat a woman only world as perfect without men which is misandrist etc etc” which the comics also never show them as perfect, we see them disagree with one another, antagonist Amazons like the Secret Circle from Simone’s run and tension with other branches like Bana-Miggdall.

The name of Paradise Island isn’t entailing that everyone there is perfect, far from it but it’s paradise cause they’re able to self contain and either come to a compromise or new view of a conflict so they can not harbor long term hatred. And they also do physically fight as we learn they have a Secret fight club to help release that tension in Nubia and the Amazons.

so yeah it feels like if people actually tried to learn about the Amazons rather than relying on YouTube shorts and men who haven’t picked up a single Wonder Woman comic, this could be a lot better.
