Why is western nature loved but eastern nature hated?

I mean obviously yes western mountains are superior but that’s not what I mean

So like you’ll see posts about how the west is expensive because you can ski, snowboard, hike, etc.

There are parts of Maryland and Pennsylvania you can do that in too. Not as grand as out west, but, those parts of MD and PA are cheap as hell to live in. I could live near Wisp or Seven Springs ski resort and if I’m not on resort property or like within a half mile of it I’m looking at $200k houses or $670 a month rent. If I said “Is deep creek a good place to live?” Most people here would be like “no it’s not, only for vacation”

Why does it just… not matter that those areas have outdoor recreation? Why doesn’t it influence people much? I mean it’s probably a good thing because land stays cheap but
