Grant Agreement Document

Is it uncommon to have the grant agreement signed after you land in the country / school you are going to? My school just gave me a letter detailing the amount I will receive from the grant for visa application purposes, but i have seen online that many grant agreements are signed before leaving one's country. Anyone who had theirs after getting to the host institution, please say sth.
