Why are human offspring helpless for so long compared to other animals?
Most animals when born are up and walking within weeks and sometimes days, able to be left alone for long periods of time, and can begin fending for themselves in less than a year.
Humans by contrast require many many years of not an entire decade before becoming self sufficient. Realistically a human could only have the potential to hunt and survive on their own around age 8 or 10
But even that is pushing it.
