Advice please

So currently in Central Texas and being told I can't request a specific computer that they send a engineering package and that's what I will get. I have the recommendation from my school but kind of getting stonewalled here I don't wanna get a a generic laptop that won't last, my specific degree is digital forensics any advice is appreciated it
