Is it possible to take federal student loans for living expenses even though FASFA covered tuition?

I had a meeting with my school's financial aid office but it was pretty unhelpful so now I'm asking here. Basically the question in the title: Is it possible to take federal student loans for living expenses even though FASFA covered tuition? I've been googling around and all I see is stuff that says to do it through the fasfa form? But I don't see anything on there to do it with. Idk can someone please help me?
