The One Piece Is Actually the Treasure

SpoilerTheory

My theory assumes you are caught up to Chapter 1188. I’m a complete noob, so I have no idea whether this is common, original, ridiculous or surprisingly coherent. You decide. :)

I think the One Piece is actually the treasure that determines who controls humanity: a single ultimate weapon, “the Piece”, with two sides and two possible outcomes — like heads or tails, yin and yang, good and evil.

Joy Boy represents freedom, optimism, unity and the All Blue. Imu represents control, division, pessimism and power. Whoever possesses the Piece becomes the master of the Game, with the ability to manipulate space and time — and perhaps the only one able to remember what truly happened.

Joy Boy and Imu could therefore be two immortal demigods who have been fighting for at least a thousand years. During the Void Century, Imu found and used the One Piece and the Ancient Weapons, then scattered or disabled them and established his control over the world. He created the Red Line and the current system of scattered islands, enslaved continent-pullers, exterminated the Buccaneers and Lunarians, stole their knowledge and technologies, raised sea levels and created the World Government and Marines to prevent anyone from finding the truth.

Imu may be immortal thanks to the Ope Ope no Mi and may exist partly outside our dimension. Mary Geoise, the original World Tree, the Flower Room, the Devil Fruit tree and even the real One Piece could all be connected. The first Straw Hat may also be stored there.

Joy Boy, having lost, was erased from history but left behind clues and mechanisms for his return: the Poneglyphs, the Road Poneglyphs, the Ancient Weapons and alliances with the world's peoples. The Poneglyphs are essentially breadcrumbs leading back to the truth.

I think Imu and Joy Boy originally belonged to the first great pirate crew, alongside figures such as Davy Jones, and that they were the first to gather all the conditions required to find the One Piece. They eventually betrayed one another. Imu kept the power and became the fallen angel, while the founders of the World Government were members of his original crew who remained loyal to him.

Before the Void Century, Joy Boy controlled the One Piece and created a prosperous civilization based on freedom and unity. He was allied with the Fish-Men, Minks, Giants, Buccaneers, Samurai, Zunesha and others. He may have tamed the Sea Kings through the Voice of All Things. Emeth was one of his creations. Fish-Man Island itself may have been part of his utopian vision.

Roger found the One Piece too early. He lacked the Ancient Weapons and other necessary conditions, such as the Road Poneglyphs and Rio Poneglyph. He reached the level of his predecessor but could not activate the Piece, perhaps because of his illness — so he laughed.

Whitebeard also possessed many of the necessary qualities: immense strength, a powerful Devil Fruit, a huge crew and the ability to unite people. But he may have understood the danger of the power and deliberately refused it.

Enel could represent a potential successor to Imu, possessing immense power, Haki, cruelty, knowledge of the Lunarians and a large crew, but he ultimately turned toward the past instead.

Luffy is the Joy Boy of the present era: the reincarnation of Nika, carrying light, hope, freedom and the dawn of a new world. His role is to make the Piece land on the other side.

Davy Jones may have been another member of the original crew who betrayed or was betrayed by Imu. His will survived through the bearers of the D. and eventually through Blackbeard, who may represent the darker side of that ancient will.

Lily may also have belonged to the original crew, becoming the figure behind the Poneglyphs and the mother of the Revolution.

The older Yonko may know about Imu and the true stakes. Shanks and his crew, notably, use no Devil Fruits and instead rely entirely on mastering Haki, perhaps specifically to avoid compromising themselves.

Ultimately, the One Piece is a poisoned treasure: humanity's desire for absolute power leads either to destruction or to freedom. To activate it, every mystery of the story must be brought together.

Imu possesses knowledge, the Mother Flame, the original Devil Fruit tree, Uranus, immortality, the Red Line, the World Government and control.

Joy Boy possesses the will of the D., the Poneglyphs, Nika, the ability to unite every people, Poseidon/Shirahoshi, Noah, the Voice of All Things, Pluton, Emeth and, ultimately, the allies gathered by Luffy.

The final victory of Luffy and Joy Boy's will would destroy the barriers separating the world, create the All Blue and unite all peoples in one enormous celebration.

In the end, the One Piece would not simply be a treasure granting absolute power.

It would be the ultimate choice:

Imu or Joy Boy.
Control or freedom.
Darkness or light.
The old world or the new dawn.

And Luffy would finally make the Piece land on the other side.
