If I designed this right, the picture should do most of the work explaining things but here are some more details.

I suppose a better name would be bottle storage or no dates bottle refrigerator bottle storage? Modified pitcher method? Easy time of day method? If anyone has good names let me know! Basically I came up with a really simple way to put bottles in the refrigerator that is similar to the pitcher method but keeps the milk in smaller containers and at the right time of day for better baby sleep. This way milk with higher melatonin gets to baby at night This method helps remove an extra step of dating and counting and is very *intuitive* to in laws and other people helping out with baby.

Basically, I bought six milk storage bottles and cleared out the 3 rows on the refrigerator door. I bought a set that had 3 colors but didnt bother with worrying about the color coordination (it just happened to work out for this photo). I added three labels to the rows: Morning, Afternoon, and Night. Then I added left to right arrows with left saying 'oldest' and right labeled 'newest'. Example:

Night

Oldest <------------> Newest

Afternoon

Oldest <------------> Newest

Morning

Oldest <------------> Newest

It usually takes me two pumps to fill a bottle so i just put milk in the newest bottle. Milk to be used is grabbed grom oldest side. If I didnt fill a bottle, oh well, after a day it gets scooted to oldest. If I produce in a time window that has two full bottles, it goes in the freezer stash. I made this method because night milk puts our baby to sleep so well that we didnt want to have her drinking whatever milk from whatever time of day, hut we also didnt want to sit around labeling everything on top of all the work we already have to do. I bought a set of bottles specifically for storage. This method saves on bottles, but if bottle washing is your bane, then you could use bottles that you use for feeding with this same method.

I hope this helps! It made it so easy for my husband and I to know when to feed baby what. The only discussions were debates on the transition time between afternoon and night milk (basically decided anything after 10 pm was night milk since our baby is a fantastic sleeper but stays up late, so my melatonin production probably starts later).
