How are you guys actually preparing for a job switch?

Career

I've been preparing for a job switch, and I'm curious how others are approaching it.

The funny part is that I'm currently going back to Arrays for DSA, even though I've already studied and practised them multiple times. Every time I restart, I feel like I know the concepts, but then I wonder whether I'm actually preparing effectively or just repeating the same material.

So I'd love to hear from people who are currently preparing for SDE/SDET/QA Automation roles:

  • How do you structure your preparation alongside a full-time job?
  • How do you stay focused and consistent?
  • What's your strategy for DSA—patterns, topic-wise problems, LeetCode, something else?
  • How much time do you spend on DSA vs. core CS/interview prep vs. your actual tech stack?
  • What resources do you follow?
  • And how do you decide when you've practised a topic "enough" before moving on?

I'd especially love to hear from people who have recently switched jobs, rather than just generic roadmaps.

At the moment, I'm wondering whether repeatedly revisiting topics like Arrays is actually useful or whether I should change my approach completely.

Would love to know what worked for you.
