Colonel Émile Driant with the boy Germain Baron, whom he adopted as a son in the trenches of Verdun. Driant was killed in action in February 1916, but Germain survived the war. In 1947, Germain became mayor of his hometown, Pocé-sur-Cisse, a position he held until his death in 1973.
