One of my best friends kissed a woman that he knew I was interested in and I'm conflicted.
My friend kissed a woman that he knew I was interested in and I'm conflicted because 1) I told him I similarly had an interest in her when he told me he was crushing on her, 2) he lives half a day's drive away from here and was visiting for only two days, 3) he knows that I've been actively looking for a partner with difficulty, and 4) he knows that this woman is part of a friend group that I'm slowly starting to integrate with as a recent move-in. I told him that while I was at work during the second night he was visiting, he could hang out with her and this other guy I knew if he became bored, but I didn't know that that would turn into what it did. We have been best buds for years and the reality that a woman is the cause of severe relational strain in our friendship makes me feel childish, though I don't know if it's true that what I'm feeling is childish in actuality.
The only other seriously hurtful thing about our friendship is that he's not as close with the boys and he is with the friend group that includes my ex and my ex's friend that lampooned me in front of my other friends in the other state we're both from, but this is another thing that feels childish to me because I similarly cannot control who my friends are close to and who they are not close to.
I've been wanting to text him about how his actions have hurt me but I don't know what to text him or if I even should text him because of this. I contemplated not even saying goodbye to him when he left this morning because I was conflicted and didn't feel like having a positive interaction with him as though I'm not affected, but I said goodbye anyway and didn't bring it up, just as I didn't bring it up last night. I would be lying if I wasn't comparing his actions to the betrayal of those in my former friend group, but that may just be me having a protective overreaction.
