Maybe I’m just venting, but what is the right thing to do?

Coworkers

So I work in a field where there are multiple layers to approve applicants, but I often run into what seems like it would be a common problem. I’m often given an answer of “We can’t do that” when all logic points to us being able to do what I’m requesting.

I’m not one to take “because I said so” as an answer, so I often go out and around to confirm that we are making sound decisions. Today, like many times before, I questioned the answer and then contacted the company that could confirm. Turns out - we can, in fact, do what I am requesting. This went up the chain and it was further confirmed in my favor (truly in the applicant’s favor).

But any time this happens I feel guilty that I wasn’t just an obedient employee and took the first answer I was given. The people who made the bad call end up looking bad as a result and that is never my intent. Sometimes I just feel like I should shut tf up and do my job, but I can’t. Consequently, I’m being promoted specifically because of the qualities I exemplify and this is part of those qualities. I should feel confident and proud that I can see through the bs to get the job done, but I’m always left angry that I even had to go out of my way.

Do others find this as frustrating as I do? Is this just how it is?

Thanks for reading.
