My stepson has gotten himself into a mess and I don't know how to help
This is rather long..
So, my stepson is 16, he's your typical teenage boy. Around March, I think, he was telling me about his girlfriend. They have dated before, they were totally obsessed with one another, they would be together forever because she's "the one". As he starts telling me more about this girl.. things like "she's extremely jealous because I've broken up with her before.. so I'm not allowed to have female friends". Red Flagπ© she would dictate what he could wear π©π© should sit on video calls with him and then ignore anything and everything he was saying paying more attention to her own surroundings, if he didn't hear something she said.. she would go off on him claiming he didn't love her, he never cared about her, he's always ignoring her, etc. π©π©π©π©π©
As he's telling me all this stuff about his loving girlfriend (if that's what you can call this) I just looked at him.. I gently told him that his relationship is beyond toxic. I listed all the red flags, explained why it was toxic, and that eventually this type of relationship will break him down mentally and emotionally. He was confident I was wrong.
Fast forward a few weeks, he's telling me all about their "break". Said she called for a break, but it didn't really feel like a break because they remained in constant contact on a daily basis. However, she confessed to him that she was "bumping twinkies" with one of her female friends while they were on break. But it was a total mistake and she deeply regretted it. So he forgave her.
Again, I just looked at him.. and then I told him that it's okay to talk while on a break, it's designed for people to take a step back from the relationship to kind of look inside themselves to make sure this is what they want emotionally and physically. It's not a free pass to sleep with your friends. π© I also found it super strange that she specifically said "female", this just kind of flagged something in me. From everything I've seen and heard from this girl, she's never really gender specific. There is only one other time I can recall that she was very gender specific.. she texted my stepson telling him she was getting a new (blank).. a male (blank). π©π© However, he decided he believed her and was giving her another chance. All is forgiven.
Now, it's summer break, they've had lots of "breaks" but make up shortly after. He's usually the one left feeling like he's totally messed up and he should apologize for everything. Now, it's also important to note around here that my stepson has not lost his V-card, yet. He has a much more open relationship with me than he does his bio parents because I'm fairly nonjudgmental and I've always treated and talked to him like an equal.
But anyway, so it's summer break, I'm at work and my phone rings. It's my stepson. He's calling with his girlfriend because they need to borrow about $50. I'm not rich, not by a long shot.. in fact, we are usually permanent fixtures on the struggle bus π€·ββοΈI explain that I don't have $50 at that exact moment, but when I'm off work I can see what I can do. I can hear them talking and kinda panicking, so I eventually ask, "what is it you need $50 for?" And that's when I'm informed dude has lost his V-card. No wrapper.. no BC.. so they needed me to get plan B. He immediately tells me not to tell his dad. I agree.
Immediately after I hang up with him, I tell my husband what his son told me. We make arrangements to deliver this questionable contraband to a house we have never been to, to a girl we have never met, with a driveway we can't park in π like.. there was a lot of hoops she was having us jump through to deliver this. But whatever, the deed was done.
2 weeks after the lost V-card.. she informed him that he's going to be a father. He's terrified, he's excited, he's stressed.. all the normal emotional rollercoaster stuff when you hear that kind of news.
About 2 weeks later, I get a call from an unknown number, it's someone talking to me about the girlfriend. They informed me that there is indeed a pregnancy, and when they took her to confirm they said she was roughly 6 weeks along. Now this is where my terrible math skills start trying to work.. from the date of the deed to the date of the test is 15 days.. from the date of the deed to the date of the call is 30 days.. now I wasn't informed as to when there was a Dr visit, I was just given a very vague "we have 10 days to get a medical exam after *blah blah." Doing the math from when I was informed that the "blah blah" happened, wasn't 6 weeks from the deed.
I get in contact with my OB because there are papers all over the office that are important for fathers, I wanted to make sure I had all my ducks in a row to help my stepson ensure he wasn't just slapping his name on the birth certificate for a kid that wasn't his. Gave the OB a basic run down of the situation with my boy, and he says, "Did the heavens open up and shine a light down on him?" The OB explained that there is a chance the baby is my step son's, but a very small chance, like 1%. OB gave me info for a place that will do DNA testing.
After a month of trying to convince my stepson to fill his mother in on this information, as his father and I felt it would be best if he told her directly. Finally the secret is out, at least, with the parents anyway and we start talking about plans and what we can do to protect him and his rights.
4 days later, the girlfriend disappears.. no one knows where she is. There is no communication with my stepson to let him know that her and the baby are okay and safe. Just poof! During this time a few people that know the girlfriend finally come forward and confess that they have knowledge of the girlfriend cheating. The first time someone came forward with this kind of news, my stepson brushed it off. "She wouldn't do that. We are in love."
After about 3 weeks of searching, she's located. A few days later, she reaches out to him saying she's moving states, he got her pregnant on purpose, he's not going to have anything to do with the baby. And then Shortly after the outburst, it's all "we just need to be the best parents we can be to our baby".
Within the last 24 hours she was saying the same things again.. along with things like:
"you ruined my life"
"I told you not to c*m in me and you did! F*ing r*pe"
"Grow up! Oh wait, I forgot you can't. You're 16"
Along with a bunch of other stuff.
If this is his baby, it will be here around the end of February. After her last outburst with him, she blocked him. I absolutely don't want him to be a deadbeat father if this is his child. I'm stressing myself out trying to figure out what I can do to help in this situation. Especially with the added stress that she just might try telling people that he r*ped her.
Oh it's probably important to note that the girlfriend is grounded from the use of technology.. she specifically instructed him to not text or call her first. Only respond when she reaches out to him.
