Profitec Move + [£1,500] grinder vs Linea Micra + DF64 Gen 2 — which gives better espresso and milk drinks?
I'm trying to decide between two upgrade paths and would be interested in hearing from people who have actually used these machines.
Option 1: Profitec Move + eventually upgrade to a grinder in the [£1,000–£1,500] range
Option 2: La Marzocco Linea Micra + keep my current DF64 Gen 2
My main question is about the actual coffee in the cup — both straight espresso and milk-based drinks.
Is the Micra's much higher price genuinely buying a noticeably higher ceiling in terms of extraction quality, consistency and ultimately better-tasting espresso/lattes?
Or is most of the extra money going toward things like:
La Marzocco build quality/brand
faster heat-up
much stronger steaming
better fit and finish
overall ownership experience
...while a Move can produce espresso and milk drinks that are extremely difficult to distinguish from a Micra?
If that's the case, would putting the difference into a genuinely high-end grinder make a bigger improvement in the cup than going from the Move to the Micra?
For context, I'm still relatively new to proper espresso. I drink both straight espresso and lattes, usually make 1–2 drinks at a time, and occasionally up to 4 lattes. I'd like to keep the next machine for around 5+ years.
My current grinder is a DF64 Gen 2.
So purely from a coffee-quality perspective, which setup would you rather have?
Move + ~[£1,500] grinder
or
Micra + DF64 Gen 2
Would especially love to hear from anyone who has owned or used both the Move and Micra.
