My daughter‘s new school does not have ADA compliant doors and I’m so mad
My foster daughter started at a new school since we live outside her previous district. The school is brand new and just finished construction earlier this week. However, we discovered upon getting there during her first day of school yesterday that they haven’t installed any disability accommodations for any of the doors.
I checked and there are four fire doors between her classroom and the closest bathroom. Kids are expected to open the doors themselves. My daughter is in a fucking walker. How is she supposed to open these doors?
When I brought it up to the principal during opening days, she said ADA compliance is planned to be installed this summer. My daughter is in her walker today that doesn’t help me.
I’ve already raised this with the county. Her Social Worker, child services, and her county health nurse have all been made aware of the situation and are giving me full support.
But I’m so angry and I just need to tell somebody so I’m screaming into this void.
