Can you reduce medication dosage if you’re in remission?

Currently I am on mesalamine 1.2g x 3 times a day.

I feel i am getting close to a remission. If in remission, would I be able to reduce the dosage?

I got diagnosed last month. So am new to this.

Doctor had suggested 1.2g x 2 times a day but it wasn’t working, so I had bumped it up to 3x without consulting the doctor. And it has been working good.
