Wraparound aficionados, gimme your input: stick with the original, “imperfect” version, replace with the compensated ones, or just go for it and get one of the intonatable replacements? Compensated nuts?
I’m about to pull the trigger on a single cut LP special as a lil irresponsible birthday present to myself, and this is the only thing that gives me some pause. I really like the idea of the simplicity and direct contact between the string and the guitar, but I do a lot of chord playing and so intonation kind of matters a little bit more than the blues riffing these “older” style guitars typically find themselves used for. The wraparound also, quite frankly, just looks bitchin. I can live without it being perfect, but if I hit a chord halfway up the neck and it sounds totally out of tune, that’s obviously not really ideal.
So between the options that aim to address this, what’s the consensus “best” approach? The fully adjustable replacements obviously completely address it, but can the compensated ones get the job done good enough without looking quite as homely? Anyone try addressing the problem with a compensated nut?
Gimme your input folks, help me decide the fate of this expensive hunk of wood I’m about to open a line of credit on.
