Super exciting project in 2027: Anyone who wants to travel with me?
Hello beautiful people,
I’m currently solo travelling and writing this post from my hostel lobby because I just came up with a super exciting project. The name of this project is "2027 Summer with a Stranger"
Have you watched the film Before Sunrise? There’s a scene where two people meet on a train and fall in love, but since they have to part ways the next day, they promise to meet at the train station six months later without exchanging any contact info. This idea is inspired by that film(except the romantic part haha)
Growing up in my culture, I was always told "Stranger Danger" and didn't have much experience making small talk, interacting, or having fun with strangers. But recently, especially while travelling alone, I realised that not all strangers are dangerous. There are way more amazing people out there than society warned me about. So I've been trying to be more open-minded and notice the little things that show how beautiful humanity can be.
So hi stranger, yes, YOU! Do you want to spend next summer travelling with me?
Just like in the film, the idea is to meet at a specific place and time (likely our travel destination) without knowing too much about each other beforehand. I came up with some fun rules to make this feel like a cool social experiment. We don't have to follow all of them if you're not comfortable, and if you have ideas to add, I'd love to hear them!
The Rules:
- No exchanging names, jobs, or photos of ourselves.
- A dress code on the day we meet so we can easily spot each other(for example, yellow hat)
- Exchanging a written letter. We’ll write a letter in advance and swap them when we finally meet.
- 3 minutes of silent eye contact. Before saying hello, we sit and look at each other for 3 minutes, then share our first impression in one word or sentence. (I know, I know, it sounds a bit cringey! We don't have to do this. Actually I might be the one who would get rid of this rule haha. It’s inspired by Marina Abramović’s performance where people sit in front of the artist, look into each other's eyes for 10 minutes, and feel their emotions. When we meet someone new, we usually start talking right away. I thought it’d be fascinating to experience pure presence without words, and also I'm a bit curious how I come across to a stranger before I speak)
- Most importantly, please show up :)
To give you some info about me:
I'm 21F from South Korea. I'm quite introverted, shy, and observant. (This is actually part of the reason why I'm posting this because I'm still a bit scared of spontaneous reach-outs and knowing that the other person already knows my personality gives me peace of mind) I’m a good listener, an optimist, and a bit of a dreamer. In terms of my travel style, I’m not a micro-manager who plans every single minute. I do book essential transport/accommodation in advance and make a loose bucket list, but I don't mind wandering around and embracing spontaneous moments. I love good food, local culture, and nature. I like to take photos, not for Instagram, but to capture memories and appreciate the moment.
What I'm Looking For in You:
Age: I initially thought of travelling with someone in their 20s, since we'd likely be in the same phase of life and could grow together. However, during my travels, I've met people in their 40s, 50s, and beyond who were so inspiring and full of life! So age doesn't matter as much, as long as you have a young spirit, an open mind, and are physically fit for active travel.
Mentally Stable & Open-Minded: Someone ready to embrace differences without constant emotional rollercoasters. Respect, open communication, and patience are key! (And hopefully, you're not a super picky eater!)
No smoking, no drugs, and no heavy drinking.
About our travel destination, TBD! Ideally a country neither of us has visited yet. But just to give you a brief idea, it'll include nature, local food, and budget-friendly (I'm no millionaire, so we'll keep it authentic and humble). For the duration, it depends on our schedules but I was thinking of about 2 weeks(minimum 1 week, maximum 1 month)
If you think you're a good match, please send me your application through this link!: https://forms.gle/PpvXjjzefvi2NoxPA If I receive a lot of responses and find several people amazing, this might turn into a small group trip, but for now, I'm aiming for a 1-on-1 dynamic. Applications will be open until September unless I find the right match sooner.
Ngl, even though I'm proposing this, I'll probably be super anxious by the time D-Day comes! But it would be soooooo cool if this actually happens.
Heya stranger, see you next summer! 🌿
Edit: So I've been reading your responses, and gosh, I'm not looking for a romantic relationship here. I don't want a boyfriend or even a husband?! So please keep that in mind. I just want us to have a safe and joyful experience and that's it (Plus, I'm a lesbian 😉🏳️🌈)
But apart from a handful of weird people, why are you guys so inspiring?! Honestly, I feel so blessed to know there are so many amazing humans out there. I just want to put every single one of you in my suitcase and have a feast by the sea together! (Sounds weird, but you know what I mean lol) Thank you so much for giving me hope for the world. Love you guys! 💚
