seniors, wanted your help - i want to do better
i’m starting final year now and i want to do better; i’d like to read standard books, take postings more seriously, and study to be a better clinician
it’s not like i’ve skimmed through MBBS so far. first year i did great, got 2 gold medals in anatomy and biochemistry even. 2nd and 3rd prof - still did pretty great in university exams, in top 10 both times. but i know i didn’t study nearly as much as i wanted to or how i wanted to. i ended up depending on short sources to pass my exams.
i’m a 2nd gen doctor and every time my father talks about his MBBS and how they used to study, i feel a bit of shame. there was no marrow or mini notes culture back then, the passing rate was low (my college is in north and it’s very easy to pass), and they actually used to read standard textbooks.
what can i do better in final year?
- which standard textbooks are worth reading and how do you read them the right way?
- how to approach clinics better
- how to balance this with PG-oriented study through marrow etc, i’ll have ent & ophthalm in final prof too so ;_;
- just anything else you regret doing/not doing
