The GLP-1 stomach adjustment phase is real
One thing people don't always expect when starting a GLP-1 is how much it can affect your stomach, especially in the beginning. Symptoms are common in the beginning and when you increase a dosage.
This can include:
- Nausea
- Bloating
- Reflux
- Feeling off after eating seems pretty common
A lot of this seems tied to how these meds slow digestion. Food sits in your stomach longer, which helps with fullness, but can also lead to that heavy, uncomfortable feeling. It also seems like the intensity can come and go. Some people feel it more during dose increases, then it settles once their body adjusts.
People tend to find relief by:
- Eating smaller meals
- Being more mindful of meal timing
- Adjusting fiber slowly
- Giving their body time to adapt
For most, symptoms seem to ease as their body adjusts, but there's definitely a bit of a learning curve early on.
Has anyone found something that actually helped with the GI side of things, or did it mostly improve over time? Would love to hear some tips and tricks that worked for you!
TL;DR: Slower digestion on GLP-1s can lead to nausea or bloating at first, especially during dose increases, but side effects tend to improve with time and small adjustments.
