My roommate keeps taking my things without my permission 😭
I feel like people really have some boundary issues in hostel :)
I stay in a 3-sharing room allotted to me by my college. Now, my side is right near the door, so everyone who enters our room enters through my side of the room itself.
Now, I'm someone who keeps everything stocked up from perfumes to pens, notebooks, medicines, everything. And literally everyone around me started treating that as a multivariable store in the hostel.
I have this full stack of Glass gel pens because they run out very fast, and they're so smooth to write with. I can't go buy them one by one every week, so I have two 100-packs of these pens, which I keep right on my side table.
One of my roommates would come, ask me for one pen, and leave. When it got over, she'd come to me again asking for another. It was fine when it was one or two, and I really didn't bother telling her anything. But she kept asking repeatedly, and once she told me, “I'll take 5 this time; they run out so soon.”
I told her, “How about you get a stock like this so you won't run out?”
And she's like, “Bro, what will I do with another one when you already have two?”
I was like, “So? Do you think I would be giving these to you every time you ask for them?”
She was like, “But there are so many.”
I simply said, “Nahi bhai, nahi dena. Mujhe khud ka le lena.”
She went, “Theek hai.”
After that, even without asking me, she started taking my pens without my permission when I was absent. I didn't notice it until my last red pen from the stack went missing. When I asked my other roommate, she said, “I think the middle one took it.”
I then asked her directly, and she was like, “Yes, I ran out of it.”
I said, “Why don't you buy yourself one then?”
Now, after this, I started keeping my pens inside my cupboard and locking it.
She then directly came to me saying, “I ran out again. Can I get one?”
I said, “I ran out too. Can't give you one.”
She's like, “You have them, I know. Just this one.”
I said no and continued doing my thing, and this girl goes, “We stay here together and have been staying here for almost a year now. We're family itself. Why can't you share?”
I was like, “Have you ever seen me asking you for anything, or anyone else for anything?”
She said no.
“So I would naturally expect people not to nag me either. What you were doing was literally taking more than half of my things without permission. Why should I even accommodate that?”
And the thing isn't just restricted to pens
She would randomly take my face wash when she runs out of her because you already have a backup one bhai it's irritating at this point
