Neuropsych eval
I am curious as to how many of you who have been formally diagnosed with ADHD had to undergo a neuropsych eval. My therapist (a psychologist) informally diagnosed me during therapy. I was hoping to begin medical treatment through my PCP but she ultimately recommended I see a psychiatrist for treatment instead. I definitely respect her position, I just wish we could have settled that via portal messaging instead of me scheduling an appointment (and all that entails). I was also very disappointed because I had been thinking I was going to get some relief soon. Anyway, then I began the process of getting established with a psychiatrist which was of course a Whole Fucking Thing and the intake person referred me to the one and only psychiatrist on their team who does not require a neuropsych eval to begin treatment so yet again I was so excited to get started feeling better and living my best life and so on…I went through an interview with her and she…wants me to do a neuropsych eval. Look, in theory I am not against this as I know it could provide us all with some valuable insight. In practice dealing with finding someone who is accepting patients, who accepts my insurance, whose availability matches mine…I’m tired, boss. On top of all this, I was laid off recently and IDK what my insurance will look like. That is a whole other story but the evals are expensive WITH insurance and prohibitively expensive without.
TLDR; I would like to begin medical treatment for ADHD and would like to find someone who will help me and I don’t know how to do that without coming off like a med seeker.
