How to transfer / synch characters between servers?

I’ve got a server running on my Linux box (CrunchyOS) and am installing one on my Steam deck right now, as I read it runs surprisingly well. Exact same setup for each.

I’ve been looking for instructions on how to transfer or synch characters across the two. My basic use case is that I’d like to play the same character on my desktop and also on locally my deck when remote (so not just dialing in to the server on the desktop).

How does one go about this? I’m seeing some old utilities but they seem out of date. I’d like to avoid doing a bunch of MySQL database stuff if possible as I know fuck all about that.

Would there be any harm in just syncing the entire install and server folders with something like synchthing across both devices? Or are there hardware specific things that would screw up?
