AGR Career

Is AGR a career? I will be applying for an AGR slot in my state and on the website it stays that you have to complete a 3 year initial tour which is great... if I'll have a job after that. I work for the Government on the civilian side currently so it's a great career. I want to know if AGR is something I can retire from.
