Do persistent MMOs feel like a dying breed?

Stuff like old browser MMOs, WarEra, Eve, NationStates, etc. You could log in and discover that some random country had invaded someone, your alliance was suddenly at war, or some player had completely changed the political situation.

Is it just me or i find harder time finding those kind of games or maybe they are just not as popular anymore? Or maybe i'm just tripping and people actually still play those?
