I tested almost every AI presentation tool so you don’t have to, here’s what actually works

Resources

I got tired of seeing every AI tool claim it can build slides in seconds so I went and tested most of the popular ones myself.

Same prompt across all tools. The goal was simple, see which ones actually produce usable slides and which ones just generate nice looking but messy templates and honestly the difference is bigger than I expected

The ones that actually stood out

ChatGPT

Good for turning messy ideas into a structured outline for slides. On its own it does not really create finished presentations but it is useful as a starting point before moving into an actual slide tool

Alai

This one surprised me the most. It actually feels like it understands slide structure instead of just throwing pages together. You also get multiple layout options per slide which makes editing a lot easier compared to starting from scratch each time

Gamma

Good if you are not presenting live. It works well for reports docs or anything you are sharing async. The scroll style format is clean but it does not really feel like a traditional slide tool

Plus AI

Best if you already use Google Slides. It is not flashy but it is fast and fits directly into existing workflows which makes it easy to use

Canva

Still the default for a lot of people. Big template library easy to use and decent AI features. It is not really AI first though more like Canva with AI added on

Most of the others fall into one of these

looks good at first but becomes messy when you start editing

needs too much cleanup to be useful

feels like a template wrapper more than a real tool

Quick takeaway

Most of these tools are not really competing on how good the AI is anymore. They are competing on workflow, where the slides live, how easy they are to edit, and whether you can actually use the output after it is generated.

That part matters way more than how smart the model is
