VIP entry question

My friend bought my a VIP ticket for one of the shows for my birthday, and he put my name on the ticket. However, it says on the email that only the original purchaser can redeem the VIP ticket. Does any one know how this will work at the venue; if he put my name, does that stipulation still apply? Or will I have to figure something else out?
