I built a tool called WorthDoing ([joinworthdoing.com](https://joinworthdoing.com/?ref=r-povertyfinance)). It pulls studies from [ClinicalTrials.gov](http://clinicaltrials.gov) and uses AI to write plain language summaries of each study. It also annotates each study in interesting ways, like what kind of benefits each study provides ($, devices, free products, etc). The app will filter studies and show you the ones that match your profile, based on your age and zip code. You can filter by benefit type ($, devices, free products, etc), topic (sleep, exercise, mental health, etc) or location (remote vs. local), etc.

The app has about \~190 remote studies right now. You can join these studies from anywhere in the US. Some studies send you a product to try at home. Some are surveys or apps. Some ask you to mail back a sample.

Here is one current example. A big beverage company is testing a protein and fiber drink for weight loss. The company sends you \~1 month worth of the drink. You try it, give feedback, and earn $80.

The app will also match you to local studies that require site visits (e.g. local university or medical center). Currently the app focuses on general health topics that are relevant to just about anyone and doesn’t try to match you to trials about complex medical conditions like cancer.

It is free to make a profile. You see your match count before you pay anything. $5.99 a year unlocks the full personalized feed, so you can browse and save studies for follow-up. This helps cover my costs while also avoiding the need to sell anyone’s personal data for marketing or whatever in order to make it work, etc. I priced it low so that by participating in one paid study per year, the cost would be covered.

The app updates the database with new studies every day and keeps your personalized feed up-to-date with relevant, new studies.

Over the past couple of months of using the app, i’ve participated in 3 research studies. One paid, and two just because they were interesting. One was smell testing from home, something to help with parkinson’s research and connections between olfactory system and brain health. Literally a book of scratch and sniff type stickers, where I guessed the scent. Another was an herbal nootropic being tested against a placebo. Suppose to help with focus. I’m pretty sure i got the placebo. I also tried to get into a phase I study being run locally that evaluated the safety of a clinical version of MDMA (yes that drug) in healthy adults -- which eventually might be used to treat PTSD if successful. Unfortunately, something in my health history made me ineligible based on the intake interview. I think the pay was around $6k and it was only a few days. I think it would have been interesting! Darn!

Anyway, i think it is far more user friendly than trying to search [clinicaltrials.gov](http://clinicaltrials.gov), if you’ve ever done that.

I am not trying to spam this sub. I think this tool can help people here. Ask me anything about it.
