Someone just told me my chemistry masters is useless

Girl in my early 20s. Was interviewing for a server position at this fancy steakhouse. Told the dude interviewing me that on some days I have xyz classes. He was like oh cool, I have two degrees myself — political science and chemistry bachelors. I said I’m doing a chemistry masters right now myself. He went on this tangent about how a degree in chemistry is virtually useless because it’s a “tabletop science” “well understood science,” and that if I don’t go for my PhD, I’ll be stuck pushing samples around or doing someone else’s research. He said it’ll be impossible for me to break into industry.

I was intending to pursue a PhD anyway, but I’m kinda freaked out because my plan was to maybe go directly into industry right after. He said all of this with such certainty that I feel like I’m practically working toward a lost cause, even though I was so excited about my degree (I’m in my second semester). Is there any merit to what he’s saying? Is my MS virtually useless when it comes to breaking into industry? I start thesis research this semester… should I try to get an internship this upcoming summer or something?? Yall I am actually freaking out and need someone more experienced to tell me if what I was told is right and I’m putting effort and money into a useless degree???? Literally crushed my hopes and dreams and excitement in the spam of one 20 minute interview 🥲
